A rifle on a table faces the long range

Are you curious about the art of precision marksmanship but don't know where to start? Whether you’re a seasoned hunter looking to extend your range or a complete novice interested in the science of ballistics, the Columbus Sportsmans Association is hosting an essential foundational course this May.

Event Overview

This is a classroom-only course designed to demystify the complexities of engaging targets at distances up to 1,000 yards. There is no live fire in this session, making it the perfect low-pressure environment to ask questions and learn the "why" behind the "how."

  • Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2026

  • Time: 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM

  • Location: Columbus Sportsmans Association, W10924 Breyer Rd, Columbus, WI

  • Cost: $50.00

Why Attend Before You Buy?

One of the biggest mistakes new shooters make is purchasing expensive equipment before understanding their specific needs. The instructors highly recommend taking this course before you buy a rifle, optic, or other gear. You’ll leave with a much clearer picture of what equipment actually matters for your goals.

What You’ll Learn

The curriculum covers the core pillars of long-distance precision:

  • Rifle Setup: How to properly configure your firearm for long-range success.

  • Ballistics: Understanding how bullets travel through the air over great distances.

  • Wind Reading: Mastering the most difficult variable in outdoor shooting.

  • Target Engagement: Techniques for consistently hitting targets at extended ranges.

Registration Details

Seating is limited to just 24 students to ensure a quality learning environment. If you are a CSA member looking to become "Long Range Qualified," this class is a key step in that process.

Pro Tip: A light dinner is provided with your ticket, so you can head straight from work to the range without worrying about a meal!

What to Bring:

  • Note-taking materials (notebook and pen/pencil)

  • A calculator
